Spray Tan Questions

How does spray tanning work?

Spray tanning involves applying a special solution to your skin that contains DHA, a sugar that reacts with the amino acids in the outer layer of your skin. Over a few hours, this reaction creates a natural-looking tan. No sun required—just a beautiful glow!

Is spray tanning safe?

Yes! DHA, the active ingredient in spray tans, has been approved for cosmetic use by the FDA, Health Canada, and most EU member nations. It’s non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. Organizations like the Skin Cancer Foundation and the American Academy of Dermatology even recommend DHA-based sunless tanning as a safer alternative to sun exposure.

How long does a spray tan last?

A spray tan typically lasts 5-10 days, with most people enjoying about a week of color. Your skin naturally renews itself, so as old skin cells shed, your tan will fade. To help it last longer, exfoliate before your appointment and moisturize daily after. Everyone’s skin is different, so results can vary.

Can pregnant women spray tan?

While there’s no evidence that spray tanning is harmful during pregnancy, we always recommend checking with your doctor first. They’ll provide guidance based on your specific needs.

Will the solution stain my clothes or bed sheets?

The cosmetic bronzer in the tanning solution might rub off on clothing or sheets, but it’s not permanent and usually washes out. To be safe, wear dark, loose clothing during and after your appointment.

How should I prepare for a spray tan?

Exfoliate your skin before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and create a smooth base. Avoid heavy or oil-based moisturizers that could affect the tan’s development. If you’re shaving or waxing, do it at least 24 hours beforehand to prevent irritation.

What should I wear during the spray tan session?

It’s up to you! You can wear disposable undergarments, a swimsuit, or your own underwear if you’re comfortable. Just keep in mind that the solution might leave temporary marks, so choose something you don’t mind getting a bit of color on.

How long should I wait before showering after a spray tan?

Wait 8-12 hours before showering to allow your tan to fully develop (or 2-4 hours if you opted for our express tan). When you shower, stick to lukewarm water and avoid scrubbing or using harsh soaps. Gently pat your skin dry instead of rubbing.

Can I swim or exercise after a spray tan?

It’s best to wait at least 24 hours before swimming or working out to let your tan fully develop. Chlorinated water and excessive sweating can cause the tan to fade faster, so hold off on these activities until the color has set.

How often should I get a spray tan?

For most people, every two weeks is a good schedule to maintain a consistent tan. Depending on your preference and how your skin responds, you can adjust the frequency to suit your needs.
