Tanning
Pre/Post Care

Tanning Prep

  1. Exfoliate your entire body before your appointment, focusing on areas like your legs, chest, hands, feet, elbows, and knees. Use a mitt, loofah, or pumice stone for extra care on your feet.

  2. Avoid oil-based scrubs for 24 hours before your session.

  3. Skip Dove products and bar soap before and after your tan, as they can interfere with the solution.

  4. If you have very dry skin, use an oil-based salt or sugar scrub 36-48 hours before your appointment to hydrate and prep.

  5. Avoid applying oils, lotions, makeup, or deodorant on the day of your appointment—they can create a barrier that prevents even tanning.

  6. Shower 4+ hours before your tan with a non-oil-based exfoliator.

  7. If you’re waxing, do it at least 24 hours in advance to give your pores time to close.

  8. Remove all makeup and body products before your session for the best results.

  9. Reschedule if you have open cuts, wounds, or rashes to avoid irritation or uneven tanning.

What to Wear

  1. Wear loose, dark clothing to your appointment. Avoid tight-fitting clothes, socks, or shoes that could rub the tanning solution.

  2. You can wear whatever makes you comfortable during your session—dark underwear, a thong, or a bathing suit are common options. If tanning nude, consider using a tanning sticker to track how well your spray tan develops.

  3. Avoid light-colored clothing to prevent staining.

  4. Apply a lip balm like Coco Balm to protect your lips during the session.

Tanning Aftercare

  1. Avoid sweating, swimming, or activities that may rub your skin for at least 8-12 hours.

  2. Wait 8-12 hours before showering and use only mild body wash.

  3. Avoid lotions for the first 16 hours. After that, moisturize twice daily with a non-exfoliating lotion to maintain your tan.

  4. Gently pat your skin dry after showering—don’t rub, as it can cause uneven fading.

  5. Stay away from harsh soaps and scrubs that can cause your tan to fade faster.

  6. Use an older towel for drying, as the bronzer might transfer.

  7. Touch up any uneven spots or fading areas with a light application of self-tanner.

  8. Moisturize daily to keep your skin hydrated and your tan looking fresh.

  9. Protect your tan by wearing waterproof sunscreen when swimming in chlorinated pools or saltwater.

  10. Avoid hot baths or long, hot showers, as they can speed up fading.

  11. For special events or trips, book your tan 1-2 days beforehand to allow the color to settle and the bronzer to rinse off.

  12. Remember, spray tans don’t provide sun protection—apply sunscreen when heading outside.
